Oriental beef

Ingredients

·         25 ml cooking oil
·         1 onion, chopped
·         1 green or red pepper, sliced
·         500 g tenderised steak cut into 2 cm strips
·         2 tomatoes, skinned and chopped
·         1 clove garlic, crushed
·         10 ml brown sugar
·         375 ml boiling water
·         15 ml corn flour
·         30 ml soy sauce
·         30 ml cold water
·         1 beef stock cube
·         Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

1.       In a sauce pan, heat the oil, add the onion and green or red pepper and fry until brown. Remove from sauce pan using a slotted spoon.
2.       Add the meat strips and stir fry for 5 minutes over medium-high temperature. Add tomatoes, garlic, brown sugar, boiling water and stock cube. Bring to boil before adding the onion and pepper. Lower the temperature and simmer gently for 30 minutes or until the meat is tender.
3.       Blend the corn flour, soy sauce and cold water together, stir into the meat mixture, boil until the sauce thickens and becomes shiny.
4.       Serve with savoury rice and vegetables.
